What: Welcome to Oxford and Cambridge Event 2014 When: 29 August 2014, 6pm - 8pm Where: UKIBC Centre, Gurgaon
The Oxford and Cambridge Society of India hosted an evening reception on 29 August 2014 in the Delhi area for scholars going up to Oxford and Cambridge this year. The reception was wonderful and, from all accounts, a grand success!
We had around 45 scholars and a sprinkling of alumni from both universities. The formal part of the evening had four short speeches, followed by a question and answer session. The speakers were:
* Shashank Vira (Cambridge) – President, Oxford and Cambridge Society of India
* Richard Heald (Oxford) – CEO, UK India Business Council
* Adam Runacres (Cambridge) – undergraduate student
* Yash Gandhi (Oxford) – recent alumnus, graduate student
The evening continued for a couple of hours, with food and drink. The scholars had many questions, which we did our best to answer, and sometimes guided them to the right kind of people they might want to contact at their university, college or department. The Society also announced its Mentorship Programme (details of which I shall send you separately).
Perhaps the most wonderful aspect of the evening was that the scholars got to meet others going up the same year, and several friendships may well have been made that evening!
Based on the positive feedback we received from the scholars, we shall definitely make this an annual event, and shall try and set up a date well in advance so that you can circulate it to incoming scholars soon after they have confirmed places at the university.
