The Asia Society India Centre invite you to a special programme the Asia Society we will be hosting with Dr. Jamie Metzlformer Executive Vice President of Asia Society and an eminent geopolitical expert and Dr. Sanil V., Professor of Philosophy at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Delhi in New Delhi on the 23rd of November, Friday at the India International Centre.

As you may know, Dr. Metzl has had a prolific career in the geopolitical arena after graduating from Oxford with a PhD in Asian history. Apart from being a noted commentator on Asian economic and political issues, he is a leading technology futurist with a keen interest in the genetic revolution. Jamie has written quite widely on the subject, including a new book named ‘Hacking Darwin: Genetic Engineering and the Future of Humanity’ which will be releasing next year. He will be in conversation with Sanil, who will be exploring the ethical and philosophical side of the issue. While the programme will be a discussion on the intersection of global geopolitics and overlapping technology revolutions, it will also delve on genetic engineering, biopolitics, robotics, politics and philosophy.

About Jamie Metzl

Jamie Metzl is a technology futurist and geopolitical expert, novelist, entrepreneur, media commentator, and Senior Fellow of the Atlantic Council. He previously served as Director for Multilateral Affairs on the National Security Council, Senior Coordinator for International Public Information at the U.S. State Department, Deputy Staff Director of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Executive Vice President of the Asia Society, and as a Human Rights Officer for the United Nations in Cambodia.  Jamie is a board member of the International Center for Transitional Justice and the American University in Mongolia, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Brandeis International Center for Ethics, Justice, and Public Life.

About Sanil Viswanathan Nair

Dr Sanil V Nair is the Professor of Philosophy at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. He is a recognized International Scholar with a Charles Wallace Fellowship from the University of Liverpool, U.K. and is the Directeur d’etudes Accocies, at Des Sciences de L’homme, Paris. His research interests lie in the philosophy of technology along with philosophical issues in cinema and aesthetics. He works on art and technology in classical India, Asian cinema, Indian theatre, colonialism, and phenomenology. Besides publications in English, Dr. Sanil writes in Malayalam on 19th and 20th-century social movements, secularism and culture.
