On behalf of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India, The President, Oxford and Cambridge Society of India (OCSI) has the pleasure to forward an invitation to a lecture by one of our most distinguished alumni, Dr. Jayanta V. Narlikar on March 31, 2018 at 6.30 P.M at the India International Centre (Annexe), Lecture Hall-1 on the subject “How Well Do We Know Our Universe.” This lecture is being organised by Astha Bharati, a registered non-profit society based in Delhi, which has been bringing out two academic journals: Dialogue (1999; English) and Chintan-Srijan (2003; Hindi) for the last 19 years.

Dr. Narlikar is a pre-eminent Cambridge Scholar having completed his Tripos in Mathematics followed by a Ph.D and Sc.D. He remained at Cambridge as a Fellow of King’s College and is a founder staff member of the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy. During this period he laid the foundations of his research work in cosmology and astrophysics in collaboration with his mentor Fred Hoyle.

He has received several national and international awards and honorary doctorates. He was decorated with the Padma Bhushan in 1965 at the young age of 26 and with the Padma Vibhushan in 2004. He is an Associate of the Royal Astronomical Society of London.

Dr. Narlikar is internationally regarded for his work in cosmology, for championing an alternative model to the popularly believed Big Bang model. Apart from his scientific research, Dr. Narlikar is well-known as a science communicator through his books, articles, and radio/TV programmes. For these efforts, he was decorated with the Kalinga Award by UNESCO in 1996.

Currently, he is Professor Emeritus, Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune.
