The Oxbridgian Cricketers played a wonderful limited overs match against the British High ComOxbridgians_Cricketmission on Sunday 15th March 2015, in New Delhi, for the Nawab of Pataudi Challenge Cup. We lost a close and exciting match in the last over. The rain gods were with us, though, and the skies held off till the match was over, before coming down in buckets!

Great spirit and a wonderful atmosphere. Scores of alumni turned up for the match and to cheer our team along.

The match was followed by presentation of the trophy to David Hurd, Captain of the BHC team, by Begum Pataudi (Sharmila), memories of Tiger and Oxbridge cricket shared by Abbas Ali Baig (Buggie) and then a great lunch hosted by Ashok Pratap Singh. Our thanks!

Excellent work was done by Mark Runacres and Sam Agarwal in putting the team through their paces, with several enthusiastic net sessions. The team has been invited to play several other matches, so please do write to Mark and/or Sam in you are interested in joining the team (open to both ladies and gentlemen).

This match also announced the formation of the Oxford and Cambridge Society Cricket Club – THE OXBRIDGIANS. Mr Abbas Ali Baig (“Buggy”) has kindly agreed to be the Captain of the Oxbridgians and Mr. Mark Runacres has consented to be the Vice Captain. Buggy, as we know, went up from Oxford to Old Trafford to join the Indian team and scored a glorious century on debut. We are also privileged to have Samridh Agarwal (“Sam”), who will lead the team on the field and manage the prepration from a cricket perspective. Sam, for those who may not be aware, was Captain of Oxford and score 313 (n.o.) in the Varsity Match against Cambridge in 312 balls!

We are also launched a trophy in honour of another alumnus and member of OCSI – the Nawab of Pataudi Challenge Cup. Begum Pataudi has consented to be the patron of this trophy, which will be an invitational one-day match between the Oxbridgians and an invitational team.
